Adala Makhulo, (Kenya, UWC Mahindra College 2016-2018)

Adala Makhulo joined UWC Mahindra College in India, in August 2016 ,after completing her International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE’) at the Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi.

I heard about UWC schools and college from one of my friends, a Kenyan student at UWC Costa Rica and I knew I had to seize the opportunity and apply without second thoughts.

During the selection process, I was amazed at how many brilliant minds, invited were in the interview room. I realised that the most important thing to do is to be yourself and all your responses should be from the heart. Originality and authenticity was a major key. After meeting a few UWC alumni and hearing all their experiences, I was eager to become part of the UWC family. I was thrilled when I was informed I had made it in and no words can define that moment for me”.

What I am most excited about is the prospect of meeting such a diverse group of people and living and learning with them in one community. Also, I am really excited to engage in community and service activities as well as expeditions to hike the Himalayas as well as numerous opportunities to explore India!

I am ready to take on all of the challenges that will be presented to me one of which being separated from my triplet sister who will be attending UWC Changshu China and my brother who will remain in Kenya. This will give me more exposure to the outside world and allow me to step outside my comfort zone. I hope to gain more knowledge about the world and form strong friendships with my peers. Also I hope to become more responsible and independent. UWC is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am very grateful I have to chance to be a part of it.”
